Topic: AllergyAllergy tests
The type of test to be carried out will depend upon your symptoms or condition of your
skin.
Skin Prick Testing:
This is probably the most commonly used allergy test and is appropriate for inhaled
and ingested (eaten) allergies. The skin prick test introduces such a tiny amount
of allergen into the skin that testing is quite safe and almost any age group can be tested.
Positive reaction:
The skin becomes itchy within a few minutes and then becomes red and swollen with a
"weal" in the centre (very much like the reaction to a nettle sting). The weal has a raised
edge, which slowly expands to reach its maximum size in about 15-20 minutes,
clearing for most people within an hour. The size of the weal varies with the average
being 3-5 mm in diameter.

How would you know if your child suffered from allergies
Are there symptoms and signs that you can easily see if your child suffered from allergies ?
Yes there are symptoms and signs that most children demonstrate on a regular basis that us adults often overlook or miss. Read below to find what your child might be telling you...
Adolescent Symptoms
- feeling tired or excessive fatigue tantrums sadness erratic learning or writing acting
withdrawn bloated abdomen
- intestinal complaints headaches memory problems and forgetfulness trouble concentrating i
rritability
- bedwetting constant cough or asthma nose congestion hyperactivity depression moodiness muscle aches
- aggression behavior problems dark circles under the eyes lines under the eyes glass or glazed eyes hay fever
Your child can have one or several of these symptoms.
I had a school of ours tell us that it was ADD or ADHD and I took our son to the doctor.
He told us that our child was in no way an ADD or ADHD child, but a child with allergies.
We were also told that allergies could alter a child's mood and temperament, so we knew
that we were on to something. Soon after we had our child tested and he showed a positive
reaction to pollen, dust, molds, grass, dog, cat, soy, wheat, and corn.
Overall, I would suggest talking to your doctor about allergies as many families overlook
them and try to work on the effect of having allergies rather than the cause of the allergies
themselves. You might be suprised at what your child might be allergic to. There are a lot of
foods causing allergies. I have even heard of children being allergic to
kids vitamins and
toothpaste.
So buyers beware and watch your child!
