Direct Sales
Direct Sales Home Businesses are those in which you become an independent sales representative for a company and you are
licensed to sell their product either door to door, having home parties, or doing fundraisers. There are many successful
companies who use representatives to sell their products direct to the consumer. Some of the more popular companies are Avon Products Incorporated, Tupperware, Mary Kay, Mia Bella Candles, Discovery Toys to name just a few of the more popular ones. The usual way to start is to pay a fee for a kit. You usually will have a manager who will train you and help you get started with a customer list and perhaps assist you in making your first sale. You may have meetings to attend. Some of the skills that is helpful for direct sales are a desire to help people select purchase choices. Most direct sales positions require some phone work so having the ability to speak in a clear voice will be helpful.
Telecommuting
Telecommuting home businesses require that you do some type of telephone sales for a company. You may be calling a list of clients to see if they are happy with their service, or you may be asking past clients if they would like to purchase products again, or you may be asking for clothing donations or making calls asking people to subscribe to a local newspaper. You are usually paid based on the call volume and on the response that you receive from the calls that you make. Skills that you may need to work from home in the telecommuting industry are obviously the ability to use the phone and to be comfortable reading a script and possibly knowing how to reply to objections the people you call may make. Some telecommuting opportunities have you come into the office one day a week for training with different phone scripts.
Network Marketing
Also called multi-level marketing, is where you are usually doing a combination of selling a product and recruiting others to join you in the opportunity and will be earning income based on your recruiting success. A lot of people find network marketing lends itself to being something that can be done online as well as locally and that they can distribute products without having to have inventory laying around. They also find the ability to earn money based on those in their downline to be a way to do work once and earn money from that effort over a long period of time. Ameriplan, Amway, New Vision, Usana, Shaklee are just a few that come to mind when I think of network marketing. Skills are usually centered on people skills, being able to manage those in your downline, and being able to recruit new people into your organization. This may require phone work, or in person appointment calls or both.
Crafts and making products from home
Many wonderful home businesses grow from a skill, talent or ability to make something with your hands. Skills like woodworking, knitting, baking, gardening, dress making, candle and soap making all can be turned into a home business. People have been very successful turning a skill into a business by finding those who want what they can make. Web Designing, Freelance Writers all can work from home. Painters, doctors and lawyers can also work from home. Many professionals who once worked in “Corporate America” have found a less stressful life by taking their skills and starting a business from the comfort of their home.
